Egan Marine battling feds over cause of fatal barge explosion

(LEMONT, Ill.) — Egan Marine owner Dennis Egan denies wrongdoing in the 2005 barge explosion that killed one of his employees in the Chicago Sanitary & Ship Canal, the Southtown Star newspaper of Tinley Park reported. The Coast Guard and Environmental Protection Agency executed search warrants at the Egan Marine offices in April. The federal agencies have sued to try to force Egan to pay $1.6 million for cleanup costs.
