Dead whale in Tampa Bay probably was killed by ship in Gulf

(TAMPA, Fla.) — A dead Bryde’s whale found floating in Tampa Bay was probably killed by a ship in the Gulf of Mexico, the Tampa Tribune newspaper reported. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said the 41-foot mammal showed evidence of trauma from a ship strike. It may have been wedged across the bow of a ship and dragged for miles.
