(JACKSONVILLE, Fla.) — Crowley has awarded Thomas B. Crowley Sr. Memorial Scholarships to California State University Maritime Academy cadets Danny Gonzalez and Jack Reasoner in recognition of their success and pursuit of maritime careers. Each recipient exemplifies the company’s values of integrity, sustainability and drive through their work at the academy and time spent on Crowley-managed vessels.
A junior from Inglewood, Calif., Gonzalez is studying for a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering with a U.S. Coast Guard third assistant engineer license. Gonzalez has served as the squad leader and officer for the academy’s Corps of Cadets Second Engineering Division. Recently completing his cadet shipping term aboard the Crowley-managed tanker American Liberty, Gonzalez looks forward to sailing with Crowley once he graduates and continues to fulfill his commitment with the U.S. Navy Reserves as a part of the academy’s Strategic Sealift Midshipmen Program.
Reasoner, a junior from Jacksonville, Fla., is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in marine transportation with a Coast Guard third mate license. Reasoner volunteers with the Cadet Boat Program, training fellow cadets on small boat handling and volunteers at the Oakland Seaman Center to provide COVID-19 vaccines to mariners aboard foreign-flagged vessels. Completing his cadet shipping term aboard the Crowley-managed tanker Golden State, Reasoner looks forward to sailing with Crowley’s tanker fleet once he graduates.
Since 1984, Crowley has provided more than $3 million in financial assistance to more than 1,000 students studying at maritime academies and other select schools in the United States, Puerto Rico and Central America.
