Crew airlifted after ferry runs out of fuel, begins to drift

Mv Norcon Galatea

(BRUNETTE ISLAND, Newfoundland) — A federal helicopter rescued five crewmembers aboard a ferry on Sunday after the vessel ran out of fuel and started to drift, CBC News reported. Norcon Marine Services said another company vessel tried several times to refuel Norcon Galatea but couldn't, so the crew was taken off the ship for their own safety. A notice from the Canadian Coast Guard early Monday morning advised mariners in the area near Brunette Island to be cautious, as the vessel had been abandoned and was considered not under command. A commercial tugboat was en route to secure the ferry and bring it to the nearest port.
