Cost dispute halts work on Panama Canal expansion

(COLON CITY, Panama) — A cost dispute between the Panama Canal's administrator and a Spanish-led construction consortium has halted work to expand the waterway, Reuters reported. The consortium, Group United for the Canal, said in a statement that the government's canal authority had broken off talks on who will pay the $1.6 billion needed to complete the project. The head of the canal authority said talks have been held with other companies about work still pending on the expansion.
