Gas meters, safety policies necessary to avoid confined-space accidents

The U.S. Coast Guard has issued a Marine Safety Alert on the dangers of entering confined spaces aboard vessels. To prevent loss of life, all shipboard personnel, inspectors, surveyors and auditors should be made aware of the dangers. Safety policies and procedures should be put in place, with the proper safety equipment. The use of a personal gas meter can provide immediate knowledge of the air quality within a confined space. The Safety Alert is accompanied by a Confined Space Entry safety poster developed by the Marine Accident Investigators International Forum.
