Columbia River pilots, shippers can’t agree on pay raises (PHOTO)

(ASTORIA, Ore.) — A shippers’ group is at odds with the Columbia River Pilots and the Columbia River Bar Pilots over pay raises, The Oregonian newspaper reported. The pilots’ contracts are expiring at a time when the ship operators are experiencing a painful downturn in their business. The Columbia River Steamship Operators Association has walked away from talks, and the case instead be taken up by an administrative judge in May.
