Damage to Haiti’s main port more severe than officials realized

(PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti) — Earthquake damage to Haiti’s main port is worse than first estimated, the Washington Post reported. U.S. Coast Guard officials say the south dock is more severely damaged than they thought, and vessels have stopped unloading at the north dock. At least six World War II-type landing craft are being used to lighter ships instead. Authorities are accelerating a survey of Haiti’s other harbors to determine sites for the delivery of aid.
