Coast Guard, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi to partner on education, recruiting

The following is a news release from the U.S. Coast Guard:

(CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas) — Coast Guard and Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi officials signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) regarding cooperation in education and recruiting efforts Tuesday.

Rear Adm. Paul Thomas, 8th Coast Guard District commander, signed the MOA with Dr. Kelly M. Quintanilla, president and CEO of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The agreement optimizes outreach and engagement for the Coast Guard’s recruiting efforts while assisting A&M-Corpus Christi by providing additional tuition-saving choices for students, as well as academic options for faculty and professors.

An active supporter of higher education, this agreement allows the Coast Guard to support commissioning and mentoring programs in place at A&M-Corpus Christi to increase the number of highly qualified individuals being recruited.

“This is a great milestone marking the official partnership between the Coast Guard and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi,” said Thomas. “We want the best and brightest our nation has to offer in the United States Coast Guard, and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi wants to offer every opportunity possible to their students. It’s a perfect fit.”
