Coast Guard, pilots conduct Savannah River response drills

The following is the text of a press release issued Jan. 7 by the U.S. Coast Guard:
 
(SAVANNAH, Ga.) – The Coast Guard and Savannah River Pilots are teaming up to conduct emergency response drills on the Savannah River Tuesday at 10:30 a.m.  

Coast Guard representatives from Marine Safety Unit Savannah, Station Tybee, Air Station Savannah and Sector Charleston will be providing classroom instruction and open water practical demonstrations for a variety of small boat and helicopter rescue techniques.  The training evolutions are designed to increase the river pilots’ familiarity with Coast Guard rescue procedures.

The open water practical demonstrations will be conducted near the Coast Guard station on Tybee Island.  Representatives from the media are invited to attend this portion of the training evolution.  Space on board the supporting Coast Guard patrol craft is limited and must be reserved. 

Additional shore side space to photograph or video the event will also be available.  Any representative from the media desiring to view the training evolution must contact Lt. Cmdr. Kevin Lynn at 912-247-0081 to make security access and viewing arrangements.
