Coast Guard official: Obsolete ships have 'devastating' impact on missions

(WASHINGTON) — The U.S. Coast Guard would need to almost double its acquisitions and maintenance budget to fulfill future programs, SeaPower magazine reported. A Coast Guard official noted the "devastating impacts" of its aging fleet not being able to complete missions properly. Budget belt-tightening in Washington threatens the Coast Guard's ability to keep up with the need for new ships.
