Coast Guard medevacs injured tanker crewman in Gulf (with VIDEO)

The following is the text of a news release from the U.S. Coast Guard:

(CLEARWATER, Fla.) — An injured man was medevaced from a commercial tank ship 100 miles southwest of Tampa, Fla., on Sunday morning.

At approximately 7:50 p.m. Saturday, watchstanders from the Coast Guard 7th District command center in Miami, received a call from a crewmember aboard the commercial tank ship Cielo di Guangzhou, stating a 43-year-old man had suffered a leg injury and was in need of emergency medical assistance.

A Coast Guard flight surgeon was notified and recommended the man be medevaced.

At approximately 6:40 a.m. an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Air Station Clearwater arrived on scene, hoisted the man and transported him to Tampa General Hospital for further medical care.
