Coast Guard eases barge draft restrictions on Mississippi River post-Isaac

(NEW ORLEANS) — Hurricane Isaac dropped enough rain on the Mississippi River watershed that the Coast Guard has eased barge draft restrictions, Reuters reported. The maximum draft has been raised to 10 feet from nine feet, but that's still well below the normal clearance of 12 feet. Some people worry that the higher water level may be short-lived is more rain doesn't arrive in the drought-stricken region.
