Coast Guard: Captain dozed off before tour boat hit pier

(BALTIMORE) — The captain of a tour boat had dozed off on the bridge when his vessel veered off course and struck a pier in Baltimore's Inner Harbor, The Baltimore Sun reported. About 400 passengers were aboard the 119-foot Spirit of Baltimore on a midnight party cruise on Aug. 28 when the incident occurred. Two passengers were hospitalized after the vessel struck the pier and two moored recreational boats at Henderson's Wharf Marina in Fells Point. The general manager of Entertainment Cruises said the captain, whose name was not released, was immediately suspended and fired within 24 hours.
