Carnival Splendor needs new generator, alternators, switchboard parts

(SAN DIEGO) — Carnival Splendor needs to have a generator, two alternators and extenstive cable and switchboard parts replaced, the San Diego Union-Tribune newspaper reported. The cruise ship, which lost power in the Pacific Ocean after a November engine-room fire, needs to be dry-docked in San Francisco and will be out of service until late February. The company said some of the parts need to be specially manufactured, causing further delays.
