Captain’s escape attempt fails; pirates demand $2.5M ransom

(NAIROBI, Kenya) — Somali pirates holding the Maersk Alabama hostage are demanding $2.5 million in ranson, ABC News reported. The captain failed earlier today in an attempt to escape from the life boat and swim away when two of the pirates caught him and returned him to the vessel. Separately, a Norwegian shipping company says it has paid $3.3 million ransom for the release of its ship and 27 crew.
