Captain swims to shore when tug sinks after crane struck bridge

(KROTZ SPRINGS, La.) — A tugboat pushing a crane barge sank in the Atchafalaya River after the tow struck a railroad bridge, the Daily World newspaper reported. The captain of the Lil Al swam to safety, and the rest of the crew was rescued from the 52-foot boat. Officials said the large crane struck the railroad bridge while the vessels were transiting at a time when the river was high and treacherous.
