Canadian Coast Guard closes Vancouver rescue station without any warning

(VANCOUVER, British Columbia) — The Canadian government unexpectedly has closed the Kitsilano Coast Guard station, the CBC reported. Fisheries and Oceans Canada confirmed that there will no more search and rescue services from the station and emergency calls would be handled by the Sea Island station 17 nm away, an announcement that caused an uproar among Vancouver-region officials. The city police and fire departments were not informed ahead of time.
