Canadian Arctic natives sue to halt seismic research ship (PHOTO)

(IQALIUT, Nunavut) — Canadian natives are using a legal strategy to try to stop a research ship from conducting a seismic survey along Baffin Island, PostMedia News reported. The Qikiqtani Inuit Association doesn’t want the Polarstern doing geological research in Lancaster Sound. The Canadian government denies that the ship is searching for potential gas and oil deposits, while federal officials at the same time are preparing a plan to open a conservation preserve in the region.
