(MORRISBURG, Ontario) — A Canada-flagged bulk carrier ran aground Saturday on the U.S. side of the St. Lawrence River near Morrisburg, Ontario, with operations continuing Tuesday to free the ship.
The 738-foot Tim S. Dool, carrying Canadian wheat from Port Weller to Quebec, grounded outside the navigation channel at about 12:30 p.m. No injuries or pollution were reported, and the ship is not taking on water.
The bulker, owned by the Algoma Central Corp., has been in service since 1967. It has a gross tonnage of 18,700.
Efforts are ongoing to develop a salvage plan. The St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corp. and Algoma Central confirmed that the vessel remains stable, and navigation on the St. Lawrence Seaway has not been disrupted.
The cause of the grounding is under investigation.
