(CHARLESTON, W.V.) — A tow of barges struck a recreational fishing boat in the Kanawha River, the Charleston Daily Mail newspaper. A father and son who had been fishing were able to jump into the river just before the impact. The Coast Guard said the towboat crew never saw the fishing boat.
