Battle against Asian carp would hurt the barge business (VIDEO)

(CHICAGO) — The battle to keep the invasive Asian carp out of the Great Lakes could halt barge traffic and hurt Chicago’s economy, television station WLS reported. If the federal government closes the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal locks, shipping traffic would be blocked for companies including Illinois Marine and many businesses’ deliveries would be disrupted. Concrete products, road salt and steel are among the goods that travel through Chicago by barge.
