Barge strike forces closure of Kentucky bridge

(CANTON, Ky.) — A coal barge struck the Lake Barkley Bridge over the Cumberland River early Sunday morning, prompting officials to close the span for a damage inspection, KFVS reported. According to the U.S. Coast Guard, M/V Marrietta Hines was heading upriver with 15 loaded coal barges when the incident occurred. The bridge was not damaged but the barge took on water as a result of the impact.
