The following is a news report from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch:

(CHESTERFIELD, Mo.) — A crane barge on the Missouri River broke loose and came to rest against the eastbound span of the Daniel Boone Bridge, leading to the closure of the eastbound lanes of Highway 40 (Interstate 64) while workers remove the crane.

Crews must remove the crane and inspect the bridge before it can be reopened, according to the Missouri Department of Transportation. Crews have secured the crane and are working with the U.S. Coast Guard to remove it.

MoDOT closed eastbound lanes of Highway 40 at Highway K. The ramps to eastbound 40 are closed at Highway 94, Highway K and Research Park.

Motorists should use Interstate 70, Highway 364 and Highway 94 as alternate routes, MoDOT said.

The eastbound lanes are expected to remain closed through tonight.
