Babcock, Davie complete polar icebreaker refit

The following is the text of a news release from Chantier Davie Canada:

(LEVIS, Quebec) (July 2) — Babcock Canada Inc. and Chantier Davie Canada Inc. announced the completion of the refit and upgrade of the Louis St. Laurent, Canada’s polar icebreaker. The contract was completed on time and on budget.

The work included maintenance to meet marine regulatory requirements and upgrades to various vessel systems from propulsion to navigation in order for the vessel to complete its annual work in the Arctic this summer.

Mark Dixon, president of Babcock, commented, “We are very pleased to have carried out this project for the Canadian Coast Guard and to have delivered on schedule and on budget. The integrated project team, combining both Davie and Babcock staff, is a winning combination."
