(MOBILE, Ala.) — Austal USA christened the littoral combat ship USS Jackson (LCS 6) on Saturday at its shipyard here, The Mississippi Press reported. Jackson is the first of 10 LCS vessels that the U.S. Navy has awarded to Austal as the prime contractor. The 416-foot aluminum trimaran can be outfitted with reconfigurable payloads to support mine countermeasure, anti-submarine and surface warfare missions.
