Asian carp pose threat to Chicago, Great Lakes mariners

(CHICAGO) — Barge pilots and the American Waterways Operators oppose any closing of the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal, Bloomberg News reported. The federal government is mulling whether to close the waterway’s locks to prevent invasive Asian carp from entering the Great Lakes. Such a move would disrupt commercial vessel traffic in the region for companies including Edison International, ArcelorMittal and ExxonMobil.
