Gladding-Hearn books another pilot boat order

Gladding-Hearn Pilot Boat

Gladding-Hearn Pilot BoatThe St. Johns Bar Pilot Association of Atlantic Beach, Fla., has ordered another high-speed launch from Gladding-Hearn Shipbuilding. The 35-foot Resilient-class hull will be the group’s fourth vessel from the Somerset, Mass., shipyard since 1962.

Ray Hunt Design developed plans for the all-aluminum launch, which will be equipped with a foam collar. The deep-V hull form with a flat chine and multiple spray rails are designed to deflect spray away from the collar, according to a press release from the shipyard.

Propulsion will come from two 300-hp Cox outboard engines each turning a 16-inch stainless-steel propeller capable of pushing the vessel past 35 knots. A Zipwake interceptor system will be installed at the transom. Electrical power will come from a 5-kW Northern Lights generator.

The aluminum pilothouse will be outfitted with large forward-facing windows for enhanced visibility. Inside, the climate-controlled space will have five Llebroc Stalker XT seats and an advanced suite of navigation electronics.
