Ala. community lines up barges, boom to protect estuary (PHOTO)

(MAGNOLIA SPRINGS, Ala.) — One Alabama fire chief has devised a homegrown idea to thwart the flow of spilled oil into his community’s estuary, the Hendersonville Times-News newspaper reported. The plan in Weeks Bay is to line up a series of barges, with further layers of protective boom and absorbant materials around it. The community purchased the boom early in the crisis, before the price quadrupled.
