(WASHINGTON) — The SS United States, the historic ocean liner that has been moored and idle in Philadelphia for two decades, has escaped the scrap heap and will be redeveloped, Philly.com reported. The SS United States Conservancy announced that it has reached an option agreement with an unnamed redevelopment partner. No other details will be released until a news conference Feb. 4 at the Manhattan Cruise Terminal in New York. In 2014, the conservancy said it was exploring options that could bring the ship back to its home port of New York as a stationary, mixed-use attraction.
