Transport chairman James Oberstar upset in re-election bid

(MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.) — House Transportation Chairman Rep. James Oberstar was upset in his bid for re-election, and industry lobbyists are preparing to work with the new majority, the Minnesota business newspaper Finance & Commerce reported. Florida Republican Rep. John Mica will be the committee’s new chairman. Oberstar’s $500 billion surface transportation initiative may be in jeopardy, and the House veteran was an advocate for the maritime industry.
