Washburn & Doughty vows to reopen burned boatyard

(EAST BOOTHBAY, Maine) — The owners of the fire-ravaged Washburn & Doughty boatyard intend to begin rehiring laid-off workers as soon as possible, the New York Times reported. The boatyard, which was destroyed by a July 11 blaze, provided $4 million in annual payroll and is important to the cultural fabric of the Maine coast. The company vows to clean up, rebuild and reopen.
