(ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.) — The Florida Institute of Oceanography is getting $4 million to conduct more research on the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill, but the money can't be used to repair or replace the school's 45-year-old research vessel, the Tampa Bay Times reported. The new funding, announced Monday by U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson, comes from a court settlement with rig owner Transocean. The Legislature earlier this year set aside $6 million to replace R/V Bellows with a new 78-foot ship, but Gov. Rick Scott vetoed that money.
