$30K in cash from Maersk Alabama missing after Navy rescue

(NORFOLK, Va.) — About $30,000 was missing from the Maersk Alabama lifeboat after its captain was rescued by Navy seals, the Navy Times newspaper reported. Capt. Richard Phillips said the money was from the ship’s safe, and he saw the hijackers dividing up the cash while he was captive. The Navy, which prepared a list of items aboard the lifeboat, declined to comment on why the cash was not mentioned on the list.
