White House, Army Corps weigh options to address low-water crisis

(WASHINGTON) — The Army Corps of Engineers has told members of Congress that it will try to address the low-water situation in the Mississippi River, Bloomberg News reported. The Obama Administration says it is "exploring all possible options" in response to the risk that river barge commerce may cease next month due to low water. At issue is the release of water from the Missouri River system and the removal of rock formations.
