(KETCHIKAN, Alaska) — Keels were laid Saturday at Vigor's shipyard here to mark the official start of construction of two Alaska-class ferries, SitNews reported. The 280-foot, steel-hulled, diesel-powered boats will be the first ferries built in the state. The boats will serve southeast Alaska, with delivery expected in 2018.
