Vessels wait 42 hours to transit damaged Greenup lock (PHOTOS)

(GREENUP, Ky.) — Major delays are plaguing Ohio River mariners as they wait for the Army Corps to repair the damaged Greenup Lock and Dam, the Charleston Daily Mail newspaper of Charleston, W.V., reported. Seventeen tows were lined up on a recent day at the auxiliary lock. The wait has grown to 42 hours because the 240-ton main has been removed for repairs which could take up to eight weeks.
