Union protests new rule that shrinks refinery tugboat crews (PHOTO)

(ST. JOHN’S, Newfoundland) — A union representing maritime crews is protesting a decision to reduce tugboat crews to two from four at a Placentia Bay oil refinery, Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported. Transport Canada, under pressure from the North Atlantic Oil Refinery management, approved the new rule in April. The Fish, Food and Allied Workers complain that the smaller crews jeopardize vessel safety.
