U.S. sues 'Bering Sea Gold' captain over recovery of sunken dredge

(ANCHORAGE, Alaska) — A dredge captain faces a federal lawsuit seeking the $1.6 million that it cost to recover his sunken vessel from Cordova Harbor, KTUU Channel 2 reported. Cordova officials say the 117-foot Sound Developer, which sank in 2009, leaked fuel and was littered with debris. Federal prosecutors on Monday sued owner John Mehelich, who appeared on Discovery Channel's "Bering Sea Gold."
