U.S. court in Virginia sentences 5 Somali pirates to life in prison

(NORFOLK, Va.) — A U.S. court has sentenced five Somali pirates to life in prison, the Christian Science Monitor reported. The defendants were convicted of attacking the Navy frigate USS Nicholas, thinking it was a merchant ship. It’s the longest piracy sentence ever handed down in a U.S. court.
