Tunnel project barge lists, then drifts into Seattle pier

(SEATTLE) — A listing barge spilled soil into Elliott Bay, then drifted into a pier Tuesday morning after being released from its moorings, KOMO News reported. A spokeswoman for the state Department of Transportation said one of the barges that Seattle Tunnel Partners is using to haul away excavated material began to list as crews loaded it. To prevent damage to the conveyor system, crews released the barge at Terminal 46 and it drifted into Pier 48. Both structures are being inspected for damage.
