Tulsa Port of Catoosa 'hell of a mess' after spring storms

(TULSA, Okla.) — Spring storms halted barge activity on the McClellan-Kerr Navigation System — the waterway that connects the Tulsa Port of Catoosa to the Gulf of Mexico — for a record 51 days in May and June, the Tulsa World reported. Strong water flows and silt buildup along the navigation system meant that barges were unable to enter or leave the port between May 9 and June 28, resulting in what the port director called “a hell of a mess.” Tonnage moving through the industrial complex in May was the lowest since 1976.
