Treacherous conditions hinder salvage in Alaskan river

(ANCHORAGE, Alaska) — Extreme conditions have turned the salvage of the 78-foot Lone Star, which capsized on June 30 in the Igushik River, into a monthlong ordeal that is testing veteran salvagers, Alaska Dispatch reported. Divers have been subjected to frigid water, extreme currents and zero visibility, restricting their operation. The fishing vessel is slowly leaking fuel into salmon-rich Bristol Bay.
