(NEW ORLEANS) — The Coast Guard is responding to a sunken vessel at mile marker 980 on the Ohio River near Cairo, Ill., on Friday.
Coast Guard Sector Ohio Valley watch standers received a report at 3:50 p.m. about the uninspected towing vessel Charley Wallace being fully submerged inside the channel on the Ohio River.
The Coast Guard issued a waterway restriction between mile marker 979 and mile marker 981 on the Ohio River.
Charley Wallace has a maximum potential of 1,048 gallons of diesel aboard. There are reports of sheen in the water.
Involved in the response are Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit Paducah.
There were no reported injuries.
The cause of the incident is under investigation.
