Towboat in fatal Tennessee River collision was the Bearcat

The following is the text of a press release issued by the U.S. Coast Guard:
 
(LOUISVILLE, Ky.) — The Coast Guard is investigating a collision between a towing vessel and a recreational boat carrying 3 people that occurred on the Tennessee River, June 19, 2010.
 
The towing vessel Bearcat, owned and operated by Serodino Inc., and the recreational vessel collided at approximately 5:30 p,m., near Soddy-Daisy, Tenn.. One survivor was rescued by a near by good Samaritan, who also recovered a second victim who was deceased. The third man was found June 23 at approximately 8 a.m. in the area the incident occurred.
Following the incident, the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) instructed the Bearcat’s crew to moor the Bearcat at the nearest safe mooring area for Coast Guard and TWRA investigators to conduct an investigation into the cause of the incident.

The cause of the incident is under investigation.
