TITAN Completes Work on USS Port Royal

(POMPANO BEACH, Fla.; February 12, 2009) During the early morning hours of February 7, 2009, TITAN Salvage was activated by the US Navy’s Supervisor of Salvage – under Crowley’s West Coast US Navy Salvage contract – to respond to the grounding of the USS Port Royal outside of Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

TITAN responded by mobilizing a nimble response team consisting of a salvage master, assistant salvage master and a salvage engineer, who all arrived on site later the same day.  Logistics and contracting was managed from TITAN’s operational headquarters in Pompano Beach, Florida and manned by a two-person team working around the clock to contract and manage all commercial resources required for the salvage operation.  Over the three-day salvage effort, TITAN mobilized tugs, lightering barge, labor and other third party services to assist the US Navy with the successful effort to salvage the ship.

Contracted by TITAN and assisting with the operation were Hawaii based subcontractors and American Salvage Association (ASA) member companies American Marine and Weeks Marine/Healy Tibbit Builders along with local tug companies K-Sea, Sause Brothers Towing and Hawaiian Tug and Barge.

The 9,600-ton, 567-foot guided missile cruiser ran aground a half-mile off Honolulu International Airport’s Reef Runway after leaving port for several days of sea trials.
