Ten die in Italian ferry fire; ship adrift in Adriatic

(ATHENS and ROME) — The death toll from a fire aboard an Adriatic Sea ferry increased to 10 on Monday, with fears that dozens of people could still be missing, Reuters reported. The fire started before dawn Sunday on a car deck of the Italian-flagged Norman Atlantic, carrying 422 passengers and 56 crewmembers. Italian and Greek helicopters airlifted passengers from the upper deck as the ferry drifted in rough seas.
