Strong tides stymie efforts to salvage grounded BC tugboat

(TOFINO, British Columbia) — Strong tides have caused problems for salvors trying to recover the partially submerged tugboat Island Ranger, the online newspaper Westcoaster.ca reported. The 64-year-old tug ran aground a month ago. A barge and crane lifted it up twice but couldn’t keep it upright, so the owners have ordered the drilling of steel pilings alongside the vessel to help support the next effort to lift it.
