Ship operators oppose rate hike for Columbia River Pilots

(ASTORIA, Ore.) — The Columbia River Steamship Operators Association opposes a proposed rate hike for the Columbia River Pilots, the Daily Astorian newspaper reported. Industry representatives want to postpone discussion of any pay increase because they are suffering due to the economic downturn. The pilots, who are also hurt by a decrease in transits, are seeking a 14.8 percent raise.
