Industry leader Ship Equip has announced a contract with Varada Marine to install its SEVSAT (Ship Equip VSAT) maritime broadband solution on the company’s entire fleet of Offshore Supply Vessels.
Varada Marine, a company with its head office in Kristiansand, Norway, has announced plans to become “one of the largest offshore support vessel companies in the world,” and has under way an extensive new building program at ABG Shipyard Ltd in India. Deliveries of SEVSAT systems will commence in step with the new building program, with the first system already delivered to the yard. Reliable high-speed broadband communications capabilities enabled through SEVSAT will help these vessels stay in touch with the world and perform their duties at sea more effectively and efficiently.
“We are very happy that Varada Marine has chosen SEVSAT from Ship Equip for its entire fleet” Ship Equip CSO Gilles A. Gillesen commented. “It confirms what we have worked hard to establish, that Ship Equip is able to handle large fleets of vessels, and this seems to be established in the market, as well.”
Ship Equip Sales Manager Sindre Alnes, who negotiated the contract, said that “Varada Marine will have a worldwide connection plan based on the Ku-band SEVSAT product with initially 128Kbps/128Kbps speeds and 4 telephone lines, including a prepaid Crew Calling setup on selected lines.”
“Ship Equip was chosen after a thorough evaluation of price and coverage,” said Varada Marine Technical Director and COO Kjell Eivind Karlsen. “In particular, good coverage in Brazil was a requirement of great importance, along with well-established worldwide coverage and a global service organization.”
